Supreme Federal Court

The Supreme Federal Court functions as Brazil's highest judicial institution with eleven ministers appointed by the president and confirmed by the Senate.

The court emerged in 1829 as the Supreme Court of Justice during the imperial period and transformed into the Federal Supreme Court after Brazil became a republic.

The Supreme Federal Court operates in a modernist building designed by Oscar Niemeyer, representing Brazilian architectural innovation in the federal capital.

Visitors can observe public sessions of the court through television broadcasts or attend guided tours of the building during regular business hours.

Since 2002, this constitutional court broadcasts all judicial and administrative meetings on television, making legal proceedings accessible to Brazilian citizens.
