Kōchō-ji

Kōchō-ji is a Buddhist temple in Numazu featuring wooden structures with curved roofs typical of Japanese temple architecture. The grounds include multiple prayer halls, traditional gardens decorated with stone lanterns, and water features throughout the complex.

The temple grounds have maintained their original arrangement since its founding. Several buildings were reconstructed during the Edo period to preserve their traditional design.

The temple holds a notable collection of ancient Buddhist scriptures written on wooden tablets and preserved in a dedicated archive room. These rare texts offer insight into the spiritual history maintained at this site over centuries.
