Prostokątny dom mierzy 35 metrów na 15 metrów, z grubymi ścianami z ubitej ziemi i kamiennymi fundamentami w trzech różnych sekcjach mieszkalnych.

Fernão Pais de Barros zlecił budowę tego domu w 1640 roku, podczas gdy kaplica została dodana w 1681 roku na prośbę jego żony.

Wnętrze kaplicy zawiera drewniane ołtarze, ambonę oraz malowidła na sufitach nawy i kaplicy głównej, odzwierciedlające portugalskie rzemiosło kolonialne.

Posiadłość zarządzana przez IPHAN obejmuje 11.64 hektarów chronionego terenu z obszarami pierwotnego lasu i jeziorami wokół kompleksu architektonicznego.

Brazylijski pisarz Mário de Andrade kupił posiadłość w 1944 roku i później przekazał własność IPHAN w celu zachowania.
